Background

In the present system continuity of Rail is ensured on daily basis by patrolling in morning hours between 0600 to 1200 hrs by an official known as "Keyman", who travels from one end to other over the specified lengths and observes the continuity of Rail, raises alarm and takes necessary action, in case of Rail cracks /separation. Apart from detection of Rail crack / separation, Keyman is also observing track conditions, track components, obstruction in the form of boulder falling, water flow, flooding, condition of girder bridges etc.*
